About German Practiser
A learning roadmap, not a treadmill.
Why we built this
Learning a language is hard, and the existing tools each fall a little short of what we wanted. The popular apps teach a lot, but they decide what you learn next and when — if you want to skip ahead or come back to one specific topic, you can't.
Books cover what they cover. If a topic doesn't click, the book moves on. And the moment you close it, there's nowhere to test what you just read with feedback that actually tells you whether you're getting it.
German Practiser is what we wished existed between those two: a clear roadmap that shows you where you are and where you're heading, plus practice sessions you can aim at exactly the topic you need — when you need it.
What it's good for
- Stuck on a topic from a textbook? Pick that topic here and drill it until it sticks.
- Preparing for Goethe / TestDaF / telc? Focus on the grammar and vocabulary the exam asks for.
- Want to hold a real conversation? The speaking and listening drills feed back on actual pronunciation and comprehension, not just multiple choice.
How the app works
A quick setup lets us personalize where you start — none of it is mandatory and you can change it later.
Per topic, an optional vocab check seeds a starting mastery score for every word, so practice begins where you actually are. There's no pretending you don't already know Brot.
Practice sessions are ten questions at a time and mix the question types — multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, listening, speaking — so the same word feels fresh from multiple angles, and weaker words come back more often via spaced repetition.
Reading mode unlocks gently once your average mastery reaches 7 on a topic. The point is comprehensible input, not a punishment for not being ready yet — you can preview the readings before then and click any word for an inline translation.
No fake streaks, no shame loops. Steady, measurable progress that's honest about where you are.
Who we are
German Practiser is a Germany-based company building tools for language learners. We're learners ourselves and we use the app every day — every feature here exists because one of us needed it first.
