What we collect

When you create an account we store the email address you sign up with, and — if you choose Google as the sign-in provider — the name and email address Google shares with us after consent. We do not ask for any other personal information.

As you use the app we record the answers you give to practice questions: the German word the card showed, what you typed, whether you got it right, and the spaced-repetition state we maintain to schedule your reviews. This data lets the app surface the words you're struggling with at a sensible cadence.

Where the data lives

Account and review data is stored in our Postgres database hosted by Neon. Your authentication token is kept in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in across sessions — clearing your browser data signs you out.

Analytics — only with your consent

With your explicit opt-in via the consent banner (or its "Privacy Settings" link in the app), the app loads PostHog to record anonymised usage events: which pages you visit, which practice modes you start, whether sessions complete. This helps us see what to improve. PostHog respects "Do Not Track" and never receives data from visitors who reject the analytics category. Toggling analytics off later stops the capture immediately and deletes the PostHog cookies.

What we don't do

We don't run advertising or any third-party tracking beyond the analytics service named above. We don't sell or share your data with anyone. Email is used only for sign-in and password recovery — we don't send marketing.

Your rights

You can request an export of your data, ask for specific entries to be deleted, or close your account entirely. Drop us a line at hello@german-practiser.tech and we'll action the request within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how we collect or store your data, we'll update this page and bump the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be announced inside the app on your next visit.
